No sales call unless you ask for one.
Section 1 of 50%
Your store
Six quick ones so we know what we are looking at.
Your stock
This section is about money that is recoverable, not money already lost.
Your time and your people
How much of the store currently runs through you.
How you run the store today
What you use now, and what it can and cannot do.
What you want
Last section. This is what shapes your results.
Thanks for your time.
Store Check is built for stores with a fixed premises and a counter, and the questions that follow would not tell you anything useful about how you trade. We would rather stop here than waste four minutes of your day.
Thanks for your time.
The rest of this asks about decisions that sit with the owner, so the results would not be much use to you. If the owner wants to run it, the link is retailstack.co/store-check.
Your Store Check
Here is what your answers say.
-
Loss Exposure—
How much can go wrong before you would know about it.
Your store catches problems close to when they happen. Counts are recent, differences surface quickly, and you would notice most things going wrong within days rather than months. The work now is holding that as you grow, because the methods that work at your current size usually stop working at two or three times it.
Some things surface quickly in your store and others do not. That mixture is the hardest position to be in, because the gaps sit in the areas you check least, which are also the areas where you are least likely to notice a difference. A single full count against a proper record would tell you which half you are in.
Very little in your store would announce itself. Stock can move, spoil or go unaccounted for and the first sign would come long after, if at all. This is not a statement about the people in your store. It is a statement about the record, and the record is the thing that can be fixed.
-
Operating Drag—
How much of the store runs through you personally.
The store runs without needing you in it. That is unusual and it is worth protecting. It typically means you can add a location without adding proportionally more of your own time, which is the thing that decides whether a second store is expansion or exhaustion.
A meaningful share of your week goes to work the store should handle on its own: checking, counting, chasing, correcting. It is manageable now. It stops being manageable at the point you add staff, add suppliers or add a location, and that is usually the point operators discover it.
The store currently runs through you. Most of your week goes to keeping it accurate rather than growing it, and it would not hold together for long without you present. The cost here is not the hours themselves. It is that the hours are spent on the work that produces the least.
-
System Gap—
How much your current setup can actually tell you.
You already have something that records what happens in your store and lets you get at it. That puts you ahead of most operators who complete this. The remaining questions are about what the data is being used for, not whether it exists.
Your setup captures some of what happens and loses the rest. Usually that means money in is recorded well and goods out are not, which is why sales figures feel reliable and stock figures do not. The gap is narrower than it looks and it is mostly about what gets recorded at the point of sale.
Your current setup was not built to answer the questions you are asking of it. It can tell you what came in. It cannot tell you what left, what it cost, or what it earned. Nothing in this band is a reflection on how you run the store. It is a reflection of the tools available to independent operators in this market.

What you cannot currently answer
None of these need more effort from you. They need a record.
-
What is at stake each month
This is an estimate from your answers, not a measurement of your store. A stock count is the only way to know.

Want to go through this with someone?
A key account manager can walk through these results with you. They work with independent supermarkets and pharmacies every day, and they already have your answers, so you will not be asked any of this again. Just give them the reference code above. It is also in your email.
